Fresh pots, new work:

In mid-March of 2020, we returned
home from
remote off-grid camping
out west,
just as the pandemic hit.
So we closed Linville River Pottery
to visitors,
and dove deeper into
exploring fresh combinations
of clays, glaze materials,

and firing processes.
Three new series emerged
from these experiments.
Because variation rather than
repetition is the heart of this
new work, every piece within
each series is unique.

Wildscape series
Thrown on a kickwheel,
combining the earthiness of
dark red stoneware

with the luminosity of porcelain,
with textures and multi-layered
glazes inspired by winter in the
mountains: bare
bones of trees
juxtaposed against mercurial skies.

Earthscape series
Inspired by backcountry camping
under spectacular starry skies, these
small handbuilt porcelain
plates/wall pieces are
deeply textured,
using handmade stamps to create

scenes of stars, trees, animals,
and tiny houses.

Woodland series
Small handbuilt dark red stoneware
plates/wall pieces
with porcelain slip,
layered glazes, and
foraged leaf and
wildflower monoprint designs.
